The Crisis: A Record of the Darker Race was conceived
and edited by W.E.B. DuBois (1868-1963) who served as editor
until 1934. This magazine is the official monthly publication
of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
(NAACP). In 1925, The Crisis
began to sponsor an annual literary contest that was continued
for 3 years.
